It is October but the winter fun is not over yet! Ice climbing at Whakapapa on the 26th October.
The ice in Grand Gulley at 2000m on Ruapehu is spectacular at the moment. We climbed a frozen waterfall called Gorilla the other day which was in amazing condition for this time of year. Because of unusually cool conditions and a shady location this secret spot is a good one to know about for avid ice climbers around the North Island.
